Our Curriculum
Education for life
At Mentone Girls' Grammar School, our K-12 curriculum is characterised by a range of academic and co-curricular activities which are aimed at providing students with exciting and engaging learning pathways that encourage each student to reach her potential.
Designed specifically to meet the needs of girls and underpinned by our unique WAVES priorities of Wellbeing, Achievement, Values, Enterprise, Success, our curriculum is constantly reviewed and evolving.
The following broad programs and pathways are offered at Mentone Girls' Grammar School:
- From Kinder to Year 6: Students are engaged in the International Baccalaureate's Primary Years Program (PYP).
- From Years 7 to 10: Students at these levels participate in our own Secondary Years Program (SYP), a varied program which has been designed to flow from the PYP program of the Junior School into a broad range of VCE studies available in the senior years.
- At Year 10 a student may, if she is ready, undertake one or more VCE subjects. Regardless of the pathway a student selects, she is accompanied along her journey by a comprehensive program of career education at this level.
- At Years 11 and 12 students will normally be engaged in a VCE program of study. Selected VET studies are also available to our students.
- At Year 12, some students will undertake University Enhancement Studies in an area where they have made excellent and accelerated progress.
Each student at our school is an individual whose needs are monitored closely. For highly able learners, we provide opportunities for enrichment and acceleration through our SAIL (Supporting Advanced and Independent Learners) program from Years 3 to 10. For students in need of additional support, our Performance Enhancement teachers provide advice to teachers, and, if needed, supplementary tuition to students.
We believe in lifelong learning and encourage this through an exciting, varied and yet continuous curriculum from Kinder through to Year 12.
